Pink Floyd

I first witnessed the genius of Pink Floyd around 1985 when a friend offered me a free ticket.Pink Floyd Live Show At the time I wasn't a fan, as a matter of fact I didn't care for the sort of acid rock type of music with loud helicopter noise toys and mentally tormented characters screaming in some of the songs. But after the first chest pounding song I found out what millions of Floyd fans had already discovered. These guys can flat out perform.

From the moment the blinding lights and lasers fill the house with techno-color, and the Fender Stratocasters wailed...I was hooked. I remember sitting on the edge of my seat saying "these guys are deep...and good". It was like taking a trip and never leaving the farm.  I remember how the smoke and the lasers combined to make puffy white clouds floating around in the air at the old Arena in St. Louis. Alongside the clouds,  the giant inflatable pig was awaiting his or her turn in the spotlight.

I was changed forever that night, spoiled would probably be a better word. I have used Pink Floyd as a barometer  for how bands should perform. Maybe that's not fair since many other bands just simply didn't have a chance in my view.  Even now, with David Gilmour in his 60s, still plays that srat like a  virtuoso plays the violin...by feel and not by sight.

Never had I witnessed a band that takes you to places like they do and absolutely towered over and above every other band that I had seen. Musically and visually, this group of talented musicians and song writers can steal you away from reality for hours and put your mind in a world of fantasy. Now after 23 years of being a fan, I only hope that Gilmour and Waters keep on writing songs. There can never be enough "Comfortably Numb" -like songs out there as far as I'm concerned. One of the best guitar solos ever. These guys will always be my favorite band of all time.

Pink Floyd first established themselves in the music world in 1965 with the tragically talented Pink Floyd 1965lead singer Syd Barrett at the helm. After Barrett’s mental decline do to drug abuse, David Gilmour took his place in 1968. The rest of the band went on to record numerous hit albums until 1994. Contrary to popular belief, Pink FloydPink Floyd is no longer a band. Although many reunions have been anticipated, none have come to light. Their closest “reunion” was when they performed in 2006 at the Live 8 concert. However, after a lengthy suit for rights to bear the name and music, remaining members David Gilmour and Roger Waters still tour solo around the world performing new material of their own and old material from their legendary space, psychedelic and progressive rock albums The Wall, Wish You Were Here, and Dark Side of the Moon. Unfortunately keyboardist Richard Wright recently passed away after a long battle with cancer thus terminating any hope of the classic line-up playing together. You can get DVD's of past performances however, in digital quality.

"I remember a 1980's P F concert where they jammed "Dark side of the moon" for 25-30 minutes. They were a hell of a show. I recently went to see the "Australian Pink Floyd" show. I have to tell you they were fantastic and I highly recommend if you are a Floyd fan like me".

"I went to see Pink Floyd back in 1980 expecting to see a weird acid rock type of band... Boy was I wrong. These guys brought the house down with solid vocals, near perfect guitar work and a spectacular show. I'm glad I decided to go. Now I'm a PF lifer and lover".

"March 18, 1977,my 20th birthday, in London England I attended the Animals concert with a couple of Air Force buddies, Carouseau and Gordon, from RAF Upper Heyford. Sight and sound was awesome, with giant pigs and airplanes flying above our hashish filled heads. Us and Them, and Welcome To The Machine was performed for the encore. It was an unforgettable experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I have never been to such an incredible performance in my life. Does anyone know of some video footage of that concert that can be purchased? The only thing I don't remember is what coliseum or arena it was that they performed in. Any Ideas?"
